Public Fax Service
The Library offers a FREE fax sending service allowing Patrons to send faxes to fax numbers located within the continental United States. The service is provided through the same equipment that provides our scanning service – our KIC scanner, located adjacent to the library’s Tech Desk.
To send a fax, just follow the instructions on the screen, and fill in the number you want to send it to, along with any further instructions, using the fields that will show on screen as part of the sending process, and using the onscreen touch keyboard to complete the information you want to include.
Please note that in order to receive a notification that your fax has been sent, you will need to provide your own valid email address as part of the sending process. The machine does not print a physical send confirmation.
The fax service is intended as a self-service option and is designed to be as simple to operate as possible. However, if you require assistance, a member of staff will assist you to operate the screen and send your fax.
Library Exhibits
The Library mounts dozens of exhibits and displays throughout the year showcasing local artists, private collections and historical photographs. Featured exhibits are mounted in the Anne Louise Davis Gallery on the lower level. Other exhibits are displayed in the Plainfield Room, the Main Lobby, and in display cases throughout the Library. All areas of the Library are accessible to the handicapped.

Notary Service at the Plainfield Public Library
The Plainfield Public Library offers Notary Public services for the benefit of the residents of our community. The following guidelines will be followed in the provision of Notary Service:
- Notary Services are available during the Library’s hours of operation and are not available in the fifteen (15) minutes after the time of opening or prior to the time of closing.
- Customers seeking Notary Service should call the Library prior to their visit to ensure that the Notary is available. The Notary can be reached by calling 908-757-1111 ext. 1703.
- Notary Service is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Valid government-issued photo identification is required of any customer seeking Notary Service.
- Notary Service is limited to three (3) documents per person, per visit.
- As of September 2, 2014 there is a charge of $2.50 per document notarized. Cash and credit cards are acceptable forms of payment. Checks are not accepted.
- Documents in any language other than English will not be notarized at this facility.
- Notary Service is NOT available for Deeds, Mortgages, Wills, Living Wills, Living Trusts, Codicils or Depositions.
- In situations where a witness is required the Library will not provide witnesses, and witnesses may not be solicited from customers using the Library. In order to serve as a witness, the witness must personally know the individual whose document is being notarized and must be in possession of valid photo identification.
- Certain public documents cannot be copied and notarized. Examples of these are birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage certificates.
- New Jersey Notarial Law requires that a Notary and the customer seeking notarization be able to communicate directly with each other. The Library Notary is not permitted to make use of a translator to communicate with a Notary Service customer.
- In accordance with New Jersey Notarial Law, Notaries will not provide service if the customer, document or circumstances of the request for Notary Service raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt or uncertainty for the Library. In this event, the Library Notary may, at his/her sole discretion, decline to provide Notary Service.

Public Computer Access – Main Floor
Access to the public computers will be affected throughout the library construction period.
Please call the Reference Desk at ext. 1700 before your visit for the latest information about computer access & availability. For information regarding Computer Training, please contact our Digital Literacy staff.
The Library offers a variety of computer-related services for all ages; users age 13 and under must visit the Children’s Library.. Free wireless access is available throughout the Library via the PPLWIFI network. Users of the Library’s machines may use their Plainfield Public Library card (Plainfield Residents), home Library Card (non-residents in MURAL or STELLA locations), or Guest Pass (guest passes are restricted to individuals ages 18+). There is no refund for funds added on a guest pass. Cards with more than $10.00 in fines/fees on the account will not be able to access the Public Computers.
Library cards and Guest Passes are non transferable. Only the person whose name appears on the Guest Pass log sheet, library card application, or in the library record in the case of MURAL and STELLA card holders, may use the library card. Unauthorized usage will result in the confiscation of the library card. The true owner will need to retrieve the card from the library with photo ID. All patrons receive two free pages of B&W printing per person per day. All additional B&W printing is $0.20 per page; all color printing is $0.40 per page. Money can be added to your account at the Circulation Desk. Library cards and Guest Passes must be present in order to add money for printing. As noted above, please note that no refunds can be given on monies added to guest passes. All public computer printing is single-sided, on letter-sized paper.
WIFI at the Plainfield Public Library
Plainfield Public Library allows users wireless access to the internet with no cost and no time limit. Even though the Library building is closed the Library’s WiFi is on 24/7 (connect to PPLWIFI – no password needed). The signal extends to both parking lots and across Library Park to Arlington Avenue.
